What is CBD?The letters CBD stand for cannabidiol. It gets to the cannabinoid group and is found in hemp or cannabis. The latter itself belongs to the cannabaceae family. Its tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content depends on the variety. It is used for different purposes and in different fields ranging from civil engineering to medicine, through the food industry, etc.
Industrial hemp is used to produce safe CBD. This has a THC content of less than 0.2? One thing to remember is that you don't have to worry about mind-altering effects with CBD, unlike THC.
CBD production processHuman intervention is sufficiently reduced in the cultivation of cannabis. However, the follow-up of a person is necessary if you have the ambition to obtain a good return. The first thing to do in this case is to choose between outdoor cultivation, indoor cultivation and greenhouse cultivation, whichever is most appropriate for you. Each type of crop has its advantages and its small flaws.
Outdoor cultivation has the advantage of being economical and ecological. The yield achieved with this type of culture is not bad and the flowers are sufficiently robust. The risk is that the crop is exposed to weather and insects. The protection of the culture by the greenhouse allows a better control of the parameters of culture. Optimal plant growth can therefore be expected. In addition, you do not have to fear insects although you do not use chemical fertilizers. As for indoor cultivation, it can be done in a closet or inside sheds. The main disadvantage here is that cultivation requires a large supply of electrical energy. Exposure to insects is not, however, reduced.
After choosing the type of crop, you need to define the land for cultivation. The soil must be sufficiently rich in micro elements. A good quality soil saves you from having to use large amounts of chemical fertilizers. So you can claim organic flowers. The environment would therefore be spared.
The type of water you use for growing CBD is also important. If outdoor cultivation does not require the use of a lot of water, other types of cultivation would consume more. The pH of your water must therefore be within regulatory limits to facilitate the transport of nutrients and oxygen to plants and thus contribute to their growth. Neutral water must have a pH of 7. If your water is too basic or too acidic, it is quite possible to adjust the pH by adding certain products in given proportions. The use of fertilizers can thus make it possible to lower the pH of tap water.
CBD extractionAfter growing cannabis, you need to move on to extracting CBD and possibly other substances of interest. Alcohol, oil or supercritical carbon dioxide can be used. The latter method extracts all of the CBD as well as other substances from cannabis. Its main strength is that the plants are not heated, so that heat-sensitive compounds are retained. The method is expensive.
On the other hand, if you are extracting with oil, you have to heat the plant, which means that you lose all the other substances and only get back the pure CBD. This method is even more expensive than the previous one.
Finally, alcohol makes it possible to extract CBD without great expense. The process is relatively slow and you are not keeping all the elements of the plant.
So it all depends on the goal pursued when you produce CBD.
